Gertrude Greaney

Gertrude has always had a passion for travelling since she was very young and it was this hobby that helped her discover dance. She had taken an interest in Irish dancing when she was a child but that wore off and it wasn’t until she was living in Miami in 1999 that she discovered her love of Salsa. She started Salsa dancing in Miami but didn’t take any classes until she came back to Ireland. By then it had become an addiction and she was dancing every night of the week. It was while doing a degree in Arts in Galway that she was offered a job teaching beginner partner salsa in the Dance society in Nuig and she fell in love with the idea of teaching salsa.
She started going to auditions with different dance companies and was offered a job teaching Salsa with Stepping Out a large Dublin based Dance Company. She loved every minute of this job she was teaching Salsa Slims classes and also Salsa partner classes five nights a week all over the country. She also taught children’s classes in Salsa and Hip hop and she took part in a nationwide Dance camp in the summer for children. She won Stepping Outs Teacher of the year award in 2006 which was a huge honour. Stepping Out were a great company to work for but she wanted to go back to college and become a more diverse dancer so she decided to leave and set up Dance Fusion with Anibal and work locally.
